Lake Alexander Temporarily Shut Over Water Quality Concerns

Darwin City Council

Lake Alexander has been closed again due to a high bacteria content that was detected in the lake during routine water quality monitoring.

The recent rains have washed more nutrients into the lake and reduced the water quality.

As the current quality of the water in Lake Alexander does not meet the levels required for swimming, the lake has been temporarily closed to swimmers and other water activities whilst further testing is undertaken.

Lake Alexander has its water quality regularly monitored for public safety.

City of Darwin is committed to maintaining the highest environmental practices to protect the community and our environment.

The public will be advised when the lake is reopened. Until then, please heed all signs while the water quality testing is being undertaken.

City of Darwin apologises for any inconvenience.
