Last chance to register for site compliance workshops – Wollongong

We’ve extended the deadline for local building companies, project supervisors, and private certifiers to register to attend a workshop on building site compliance in August.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday 10 August and will provide advice for site supervisors for residential home builders, as well as targeting project managers/earthworks contractors of sub-division sites.

“We appreciate that those responsible for site compliance have been rather busy over the past week or so in this wet and wild weather. That’s why we’ve extended the deadline for our upcoming workshop to give them the chance to register their attendance,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“We really want to encourage those who need to manage soil and sediment from building sites to join us for the workshop. The workshop is about making sure that those working in the construction industry are up-to-speed with the most current guidelines and expectations.”

Representatives from local building companies, project supervisors, private certifiers and members of relevant building industry peak bodies can register their attendance by calling Leonie Chapman (Regulation and Enforcement) via Council’s Customer Service on 4227 7111 before Monday 18 July 2022.

The workshop is part of Council’s ongoing education program to reinforce the obligations on builders, developers and certifiers which, it’s hoped, will reduce the instances of run-off and the need for enforcement action from Council.

“The consistent and constant rainy spells we have been experiencing lately has seen water pollution incidents from building sites receiving greater scrutiny than before,” Cr Bradbery said.

“It’s important we get this right because otherwise the displaced sediment and material, whether dirt, soil, sand or mud, can seriously impact the local environment and its amenity.”
