The Working with Children (WWC) Screening Unit 'Explore the Check' with Aboriginal organisations across WA.
The Community Engagement Team from the WWC Screening Unit recently held a Yarning Circle in Perth and visited Aboriginal organisations in the Midwest and Kimberley regions as part of the "Explore the Check" program.
Throughout the various sessions and meetings, Aboriginal organisations were open in sharing their experiences with the WWC Check and discussing ways to improve engagement. The Team also gained a better understanding of differences between metro and regional based concerns and identified common trends.
These latest engagement opportunities form part of the Unit's Aboriginal Engagement Strategy, which focuses on strengthening the relationships with Aboriginal stakeholders to better understand the support and information they need to implement the WWC Check in their communities.
"The WWC Screening Unit is committed to empowering Aboriginal people via innovative and integrated approaches as detailed in our Aboriginal Engagement Strategy," A/Director WWC Screening Unit Ashley McKeown said.
"The translated resources, indigenous designs, and engagement strategies such as the Yarning Circles and 'Explore the Check', are a valuable and culturally appropriate way to provide an opportunity to listen to those working directly with Aboriginal communities and build positive working relationships."
