Latest vaccination dose to keep Covid risk at minimum

NT Government

In line with the Territory's progression to living with COVID-19, the latest dose of the vaccine is now available to help the Territory Labor Government keep Territorians safe.

A fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is now available in the Northern Territory for those who are at greatest risk of severe illness from COVID-19, and is recommended for vulnerable groups who have received their primary vaccination and first booster dose.

The fourth dose is an extra booster dose which is only available for the following groups, four months after their previous vaccination:

o Adults aged 65 years and over

o Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older

o Residents of aged care or disability care facilities

o People aged 16 years and over who are severely immunocompromised.

Vaccination remains the best defence against COVID-19 and everyone needs stays up-to-date with their vaccinations.

Territorians who are eligible for a fourth dose but have had COVID-19 after their third dose, will need to wait four months after they have recovered from their infection.

Territorians who believe they are immunocompromised and may require a fourth dose should speak with their GP about eligibility.

It's also a timely reminder for those who have contracted COVID-19 and have recovered to remain up-to-date with their doses of the COVID-19 vaccination.

The Territory Labor Government is also announcing changes to COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the Top End, with the Palmerston COVID-19 Vaccination Centre to close from Saturday April 30.

The closure is due to high vaccination rates across the Greater Darwin region, and anyone who has booked at the Palmerston Vaccination Centre after this date will have their booking transferred to the Darwin COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Marrara.

"My son Henry falls into the category of Territorians who have recovered from COVID-19 but he is now eligible to update his vaccination status.

"It's important for Territorians to remember even though, like Henry, they may have contracted COVID-19, they could be at risk in the future and their best option is to keep on top of their vaccination doses and status.

"The Territory Labor Government has helped keep Territorians safe throughout the pandemic and ensuring all Territorians remain educated around the need to keep their vaccine boosters updated will continue to keep the risk of COVID-19 at a minimum.

"The Palmerston COVID-19 Vaccination Centre has been a great resource in helping vaccinate a large portion of Territorians and acknowledge the work of the staff at that clinic.

"With such high COVID-19 vaccination rates in the Top End, it is now time to consolidate our frontline resources."
