Post-pandemic economic growth in developing Asian and Pacific countries weakened considerably in 2022 and is expected to remain weak in 2023. Not surprisingly, monetary tightening has gathered pace in many economies amid historical high inflation. This will have significant implications for the fiscal and debt positions of developing economies and thus their ability to pursue sustainable development and tackle climate challenges.
This year's Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific, produced by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), offers new perspectives on fiscal and public debt analysis to help developing countries in the region step up their investments aimed at achieving the SDGs and maintaining public debt sustainability in the longer term.
