Leeton Shire Council Proposes LGNSW Motions for Regional Progress

Leeton Shire Council

Leeton Shire Council, in its commitment to the betterment of the community and region, has endorsed three significant motions for submission to the 2023 Local Government New South Wales (LGNSW) Annual Conference.

The approved motions underscore Council's commitment to address important issues affecting Council operations and the lives of its residents. These motions will be presented for consideration at the 2023 LGNSW Annual Conference which will be held on 12-14 November 2023.

Proposed Motion 1: Improving Cyber Security in Regional and Rural NSW

In recognition of the increasing cost burden of cyber security and the imminent threat cyberattacks present, Leeton Shire Council through LGNSW is calling for the establishment of a Centralised Security Operations Centre (SOC) for NSW Local Governments. The SOC would operate as a unified and collaborative hub, fostering cooperation and sharing of cyber threat intelligence between local governments.

Proposed Motion 2: Addressing the Housing Shortage

The NSW Government is called on to undertake and publish timely results of an audit of all available public housing assets within NSW LGAs. This would provide an understanding of the state of public housing assets and allow for the development of data-driven strategies for improving the management and allocation of public housing resources.

Proposed Motion 3: Increased Funding for Weed Management

Through this motion, Council is calling on the NSW and Federal Governments to provide greater levels of funding to local councils to enable better protection of agricultural land and the environment from problem weed incursions.

Leeton Shire Council remains steadfast in its commitment to the betterment of the community, working collaboratively with other local councils through LGNSW to effect positive change. Any advice from the NSW Government, as a result of the motions, will be shared if and when Council receives it.
