What began as an accidental storage shed find has turned into a major LEGO auction event and is rapidly building into something even bigger. Lloyds Auctions confirms that the massive, rare lifetime LEGO collection series has already exceeded half a million dollars under the hammer, beating initial expectations with thousands of more sets still in auctions yet to close.
Original auction estimates of up to $250,000 were expected however, early results and strong bidding interest have seen the rare and limited-edition LEGO pieces double that expectation.
"This collection just keeps on building," said Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions. "We're still uploading auctions as we speak, and the depth of the collection has gone far beyond what we initially anticipated."
Lloyds Auctions has uploaded another 1,000 LEGO sets this week, with a further 2,000 additional sets scheduled to arrive at Lloyds in their auction rooms this Friday.
Notably, several hundred fully assembled LEGO builds will now also be offered, following a discovery in yet another storage shed. These include some of LEGO's most iconic large‑scale builds, such as the LEGO Titanic, Eiffel Tower, Colosseum, and other landmark display pieces.
"These are spectacular builds to see in person," Mr. Hames said. "It adds an entirely new dimension to the auction, especially for buyers who want statement display pieces without having to build them from scratch."
All lots are offered completely unreserved with starting bids from $1 at Lloyds Auctions closing daily at 2pm until stock runs out.
Interest has skyrocketed from collectors across Australia and internationally, reflecting LEGO's growing status as a serious collectable category.
