Local events set to share in over $35,000

Seventeen community groups and event organisers are set to share in over $35,000 to develop new or existing events for the region.

Swan Hill Rural City Council has announced the successful Event Support Fund recipients for 2020/21.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Director Development and Planning, Heather Green said that whilst it was a funding round like never before, Council were still delighted to have a number new events apply for funding.

"It's great to see groups developing new ideas for local events.

"Undoubtedly it's been a difficult time for community groups and event organisers and it is hard to be planning ahead for future events during the current pandemic," she said.

"A number of new events have received funding including a Come and Try Sports Day, Hessian and Lace Long Luncheon, Piangil Xmas Get Together and the Lake Boga Produce and Homemaker Fair.

"Some previous events have also reapplied through this year's program," she added.

Ms Green said that it is hoped that with changes to COVID-19 restrictions that additional rounds of funding or an assessment of new applications may be carried out in the new calendar year.

"We are currently in a period of uncertainty so we understand the limitations on event organisers in preparing for events for the coming year," Ms Green said.

Community groups or event organisers are encouraged to contact Council if they have ideas for future events by calling 5032 3033.
