- Cook Government providing support to local businesses through Innovation Booster Grants and Commercialisation Bridge Grants
- Grants part of $8.65 million Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy
- Cook Government committed to diversifying the economy by making more things here
Several innovative Western Australian businesses have received a combined $650,000 through the latest round of Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry funding, supporting the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge health technologies.
The funding, awarded through the exclusive biomedical industry Innovation Booster Grant (IBG) and Commercialisation Bridge Grant (CBG) programs, aim to accelerate the growth of early-stage Western Australian businesses and strengthen the State's reputation as a hub for medical innovation.
The IBG supports early-stage founders in the sector by covering up to 80 per cent of the costs for testing new ideas and boosting capabilities. Each business will receive $40,000 to progress their innovations toward market readiness.
Successful IBG recipients include:
- Heart & Lung Research Institute WA - developing a next-generation portable device to preserve donor hearts for multiple days;
- Neurospheric Pty Ltd - developing an adaptive robotic morphing technology that has the potential to transform brain surgery;
- Foresight Medical Pty Ltd - developing smartphone-based, AI-enabled concussion detection; and
- A2B Technology Corporation Pty Ltd - commercialising the early-stage Talk2View communication platform.
The CBG offers grants of up to $200,000 which help businesses scale, validate, and bring their innovations to national and global markets.
The three CBG recipients include:
- Pretect Devices Pty Ltd - developing the Vedette diagnostic platform;
- Navier Medical Ltd - progressing Mosaic, a clinical automation and integration tool; and
- REX Ortho Pty Ltd - advancing next-generation expandable orthopaedic screw technology.
Since 2022, the two grant programs have awarded more than $8 million across 176 IBG and CBG projects.
These programs are key initiatives of the Cook Government's $8.65 million Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy, which is strengthening WA's innovation pipeline and creating new economic opportunities in medical research and technology.
