Locals Urged to Shape Climate Action Plan

Orange Council

Orange City Council is asking members of the community to share their ideas, priorities and experiences to help shape the development of a Community Climate Action Plan (Community CAP).

Council is developing the Community CAP to guide how the community can work together to reduce emissions and build resilience to a changing climate.

The plan will be developed with help from the community through a series of workshops and a community survey.

Council staff, together with specialist consultants, will bring all this input together into one clear community roadmap.

Orange City Council Environmental Sustainability Policy Committee Chair, Cr David Mallard said the Community CAP will support community-led climate action by providing a roadmap to help our whole city cut emissions and get ready for climate impacts.

"Orange is already feeling the effects of a changing climate, whether that is severe heatwaves or more frequent and intense storms, and people want straightforward, affordable ways to take action," Cr Mallard said.

"The Community CAP will support and empower community led climate action - helping households, businesses, schools and community groups take practical steps that contribute to a more sustainable, resilient and liveable Orange for everyone.

"The plan will help Council protect the things people rely on, such as roads, water, parks and community services, while giving residents and businesses clear guidance on what they can do, and what Council will do, to keep Orange healthy, safe, and liveable."

This work also delivers a major commitment in Council's 2025-2029 Delivery/Operational Plan.
