Lower Clarence Netball Finds New Home

It's a sweet start to the season for the Lower Clarence Netball Association, with the new courts opening after the Maclean Netball Court Redevelopment was completed just in time for winter competition games.

The previous deteriorating facility has been redeveloped to meet modern design standards and will allow the area to host mid-level local and regional competitions and high-level training.

"This is a great asset for the Lower Clarence community," Clarence Valley Mayor Ray Smith said.

"The upgrade will help increase participation, retention and engagement of women and girls in sport and physical activity, strengthening their sense of belonging within the community.

"Users will benefit from a safer, more comfortable and welcoming environment for training, competition and community use.

"The redevelopment will also deliver long‑term benefits by reducing ongoing operational and maintenance costs."

The almost $1.3m redevelopment, which was awarded to Advantage Sports Constructions, included the demolition of existing netball courts and lighting, construction of six new concrete netball courts, installation of new 200 Lux LED lighting and new supporting infrastructure.

"Importantly, the design also considers the impacts of climate change and focuses on improving resilience to ensure the facility remains viable for years to come," Mayor Smith said.

The Lower Clarence Netball Association (LCNA) shares Mayor Smith's excitement, stating this investment is going to provide a needed space for the community.

"We are incredibly excited and grateful to see the development of the new netball courts. This investment provides much-needed additional space, allowing us to grow participation and expand the opportunities we offer to our community," LCNA secretary, Aneeka Jones said.

"With increased court capacity, we will be able to accommodate more players across all age groups and look to introduce new formats such as mixed netball, summer competitions, and walking netball.

"These additions will make the sport more inclusive and accessible, ensuring there are opportunities for everyone to get involved, regardless of age or ability. Importantly, the new courts provide a safe, high-quality environment for players, families, and supporters. They will become a central hub for connection, participation, and community engagement, strengthening the role netball plays in the Lower Clarence region.

"We're looking forward to the positive impact this will have on both our current members and the many new participants we hope to welcome in the future."

This project was funded through the Australian Government Play Our Way Program, in association with Clarence Valley Council and the Lower Clarence Netball Association.
