ENGLISH

Thank you, Mr. President, as well as to the Fact-Finding Mission for an overwhelming report.

Venezuelans have the opportunity this year to advance in a democratic transition through fair and free presidential elections. We have made progress: we managed to unify all opposition forces through primary elections in which almost three million Venezuelans participated both inside and outside the country, resulting in a legitimate leadership.

Maduro, knowing he is lost in the electoral path, wants to block it and prevent me from participating as a candidate. He has increased repression and persecution against citizens and members of our campaign teams. There are 264 political prisoners in Venezuela, including four members of our campaign: Juan Freites, Luis Camacaro, Emil Brandt, and Guillermo López; and on February 15, they expelled members of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights from Venezuela.

Maduro knows he is lost through the electoral route and wants to abandon it. We continue because we want to vote and we want to choose. We need all of you to raise your voices to stop persecution, human rights violations in Venezuela, and to ensure fair and free elections that lead to democracy, freedom, and peace in our country.
