The Andrews Labor Government is investing in critical repairs and maintenance works this spring at two of Mornington Peninsula's most loved piers.
Decking and pile replacement work at Portsea pier will begin this month to improve safety for pedestrians, recreational boaters and fishers ensuring the landmark can be enjoyed for years to come.
Fenders will be replaced to protect vessels docked at the pier and new ladders will be installed to provide easy access to the water at this popular diving spot.
Following the delivery of upgrade works at Portsea, work will get underway to improve Sorrento Pier.
Repairs will be made to the low landing piles and fenders to support recreational vessels and commercial operators undertaking regular tours of the Peninsula, including the iconic Queenscliff ferry.
Safety will be improved for pedestrians walking along the Sorrento pier low landing by installing mesh along the walkways, improving access for visitors enjoying the Sorrento to Portsea Bay trail walk.
Works at both locations are expected to be completed in time for summer. While the projects are underway, visitors should expect some closures and use the opportunity to explore other nearby piers at Rosebud, Frankston or Seaford.
These works are funded as part of the Labor Government's ongoing pier and jetty maintenance program and are in addition to an $18 million package for piers and jetties across Victoria from the Victorian Budget 2022-23.
