The Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its flood warnings to major for the lower Brisbane River around the central business district and the Logan and Albert rivers following continued rain throughout Sunday.
With the move to a major flood warning, communities around the Logan and Albert rivers including Logan, Beaudesert, MacLean Bridge and Waterford, may be impacted.
With these conditions, multiple homes may be inundated by water, bridges and traffic routes are likely to be cut and significant overland flooding is expected.
Communities along the Logan River may experience similar conditions to those of ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017, while communities along the Albert River may experience similar conditions to those experienced during ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald in 2013.
The major flood impact for CBD areas surrounding the lower Brisbane River is expected with Monday morning's high tide, at 7.58am AEST.
More than 400 mm of rainfall was recorded in the Brisbane area on Sunday.
Communities should be prepared for flood impacts and are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings on the Bureau's website and BOM Weather app, and to follow the advice of emergency services.
