One of the Mildura CBD's most prominent sections of Seventh Street is set for a major upgrade to ensure it can continue serving as an important thoroughfare for thousands of residents and businesses.

Seventh Street between Langtree and Lime Avenues will be closed to traffic from Monday, 29 June to allow for major reconstruction works, which include:

  • Removing and replacing the existing road base
  • Upgrades to drainage infrastructure
  • Reconstruction of kerb and channels
  • A new footpath on the river-side of Seventh Street
  • Fresh asphalting
  • New pram ramps to improve accessibility
  • Splitter islands at the intersection to improve safety.

Mildura Mayor and Councillor for Infrastructure and Assets Ali Cupper said due to the scale of the works there was no option but to close the busy section of road.

"While there will be traffic diversions during these works, the disruption will be well worth it to have this section of road and drainage infrastructure updated and improved," Cr Cupper said.

"This will ensure the road can cater for our increasingly busy CBD precinct for many years to come.

"Importantly, the works will be completed well before the peak visitor and shopping period leading up to Christmas in a bid to minimise impacts on traders in the precinct."

There will be clear road diversion signage in place to guide motorists and pedestrians during the works, however the main changes will be:

  • Access to Lime and Langtree Avenues from Seventh Street
    • entry/exit to Lime and Langtree Avenues will only be available from Eighth Street
  • Access to Seventh Street from Langtree and Lime Avenues.
    • there will be no access to Langtree or Lime Avenues from Seventh Street.
  • Access to the V/Line bus station
    • pedestrians are to access the station via the Langtree Connection crossing.
  • Access to the privately-operated CBD car park
    • Existing entry and exit boom gates will continue to be accessible, however will be via an alternate route from Lime Avenue.

Another change to accommodate the major roadworks is extending two-hour timed parking spaces in Lime and Pine Avenues to all-day parking, which is to compensate for all-day parking spaces along the Seventh Street construction area being inaccessible.

The Seventh Street road reconstruction project is funded by the Federal Government through its Roads to Recovery program.

The works are expected to be completed by October this year.
