Man Arrested, Firearm Seized in Police Operation

A loaded shotgun has landed a man in court after the stolen vehicle he was travelling in was pulled over by Police.

The Police Eagle helicopter spotted a vehicle, which had been reported as stolen, travelling through Kelston just before 2am.

Waitematā West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop, says the Eagle crew liaised with officers on the ground and were able to box in the vehicle as it pulled into a service station in Glen Eden.

"Two people were quickly taken into custody," he says.

"Officers then searched the vehicle and alarmingly located a loaded sawn off shotgun.

"This was a great result and I'm pleased we were able to take another firearm off the streets.

"We are committed to holding offenders to account and delivering on our intent to keep the community safe."

A 28-year-old man will appear in Waitākere District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and leaving a firearm loaded.
