Man charged after attempted armed robbery in Geelong

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged attempted armed robbery in Geelong earlier this month.

It is alleged the man entered a Rylie Street jeweller with an imitation firearm on 20 June about 4.30pm.

The man allegedly assaulted a customer before fleeing on a scooter.

There were no injuries.

After today executing a search warrant at a South Melbourne address, detectives located a gel blaster, three electric scooters, an electric bicycle, and a small quantity of drugs.

A 37-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences including robbery, prohibited person possessing imitation firearm, handle stolen goods and possess drugs of dependence.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court later tonight.
