Man Charged After Guildford Pursuit, Shooting

A man has been charged following an alleged pursuit and shooting incident in Sydney's west last week.

About 9.20pm on Friday 8 May 2026, officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a Nissan utility for a traffic offence in the South Wentworthville area.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through several residential streets in Merrylands and Guildford. The Nissan utility was involved in a minor crash with another vehicle on Hawksview Street, Guildford.

The pursuit continued onto Guildford Road, Guildford, when the Nissan utility stopped near the intersection with Robertson Road.

The driver ran from the vehicle, and when doing so, has allegedly fired three to four shots in the air.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command, PolAir, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) and Dog Squad attended the scene and commenced a search for the driver, but he could not be located.

Following extensive inquiries, about 4pm today (Monday 11 May 2026) officers executed a search warrant at a home on Randolph Street, South Granville, however no one was inside the premises.

About 4.15pm, a 39-year-old man attended Auburn Police Station where he was arrested and charged with

- Attempt discharge firearm etc intent to resist arrest

- Fire firearm in or near public place

- Possess loaded firearm public place

- Acquire etc firearm - subject to prohibition order

- Acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order

- Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly

- 2x Not give particulars to other driver

- Unlawfully possess number plates

- Learner driver not display "L" plates as prescribed, and

- Learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 12 May 2026).
