Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 51-year-old man following a fire at a Bacchus Marsh nursing home last night (25 Jan), Victoria Police say.
The Bacchus Marsh man has been charged with one count of arson and was remanded in custody to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The charge relates to a fire at the Gisborne Road address, near Masons Lane, about 11.45pm.
Staff and residents were evacuated during the blaze.
A number of the occupants were treated for smoke inhalation and one man went to hospital with lacerations he received during the incident.
