Man Charged for Choking, Assaulting Woman in Goulburn

Officers from The Hume Police District have charged a man over alleged domestic violence offences following a manhunt across the Goulburn area.

About 5.20pm yesterday (Friday 15 May 2026), police were called to a home on Grunsell Crescent, Goulburn, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and were told a 26-year-old man had allegedly broken into the home – injuring himself during the incident – before he began to assault a woman known to him.

During the alleged assault, the man choked the woman before threatening her with a knife and demanding she treat his injuries.

He left the scene after allegedly damaging the woman's personal property and stealing her phone.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

On attendance, police established a crime scene and commenced a search to locate the 26-year-old.

Following an extensive search across the Goulburn area, police located the man riding a bicycle on Gerathy Street, about 2.30pm today (Saturday 16 May 2026).

After a short foot pursuit, police stopped the rider nearby where he was arrested. A taser was deployed during the arrest.

He was taken to Goulburn Police Station where he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, knowingly contravene prohibition/etc in AVO, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000, steal from the person value less than or equal to $2000, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, intentionally choke etc person with recklessness, rider not wear approved bicycle helmet/fitted/fastened, and ride bicycle negligently.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today (Sunday 17 May 2026).
