A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman in Merrylands earlier this week.
Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command commenced an investigation on Tuesday 15 April 2025 after reports an 84-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted by a man in Merrylands.
Police were told the man had helped the woman carry her shopping home before the assault.
The matter was then referred to State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Bena.
Following an extensive investigation and a public appeal, police arrested a 41-year-old man at a unit complex on Harris Street, Fairfield, about 12.15pm today (Friday 18 April 2025).
He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with sexual intercourse without consent and common assault.
The man has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 19 April 2025).
