Yesterday, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, concluded his participation in the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, advancing Canada's trade priorities and strengthening its relationships with trusted and reliable partners.
At the meeting, Minister Sidhu highlighted Canada's commitment to open, predictable and rules-based trade that supports economic growth, creates opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses, and strengthens global supply chain resilience.
The Minister also participated in discussions on key issues facing today's global trading system, such as the weaponization of food through coercive trade actions, the eradication of forced labour from global supply chains, and structural excess capacity and production. G20 trade ministers and senior representatives also exchanged on the most-favored nation (MFN) principle.
On the margins of the G20, Canada participated in the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity (GFSEC) ministerial meeting and reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to address steel excess capacity and advance policies that protect jobs and support the industry's economic health.
Finally, while in Milwaukee, Minister Sidhu met with many international counterparts to advance cooperation on shared trade priorities and to build momentum in Canada's trade agreement negotiations. More specifically, the Minister met with:
