Man charged, loaded firearm seized after positive breath test at Goulburn

A man has been charged after a loaded firearm was allegedly produced when he returned a positive breath test in the Southern Tablelands overnight.

Just after midnight (Friday 1 January 2021), officers from The Hume Police District responded to reports of a driving complaint involving a 4WD on George Street, Marulan.

Police saw a silver Toyota Prado 4WD with a flat tyre at the corner of Brayton Road and George Street.

Officers approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, a 31-year-old man, before he was breath tested.

After allegedly returning a positive result, the man was arrested and as he was being walked by police to the caged police truck, it's alleged he produced a semi-automatic pistol from his pants and threw in on the ground.

Police seized the firearm and the man was taken to Goulburn Police Station.

The South Hurstville man allegedly failed to complete a breath analysis and was charged with four offences, including;

  • not keep firearm safely - pistol
  • handle/use firearm under the influence of alcohol/drug
  • possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place, and
  • refuse or fail to submit to a breath analysis.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Wollongong Bail Court today where he was formally refused bail to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 13 January 2021.
