New Projects To Deliver 7.8 GW Of Clean Energy

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy has announced the results of Tender 7 under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS).

Nineteen projects were selected, delivering 7.8 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy, more than the 5 GW originally planned.

Eight of the 19 projects are hybrid projects, meaning they include a battery along with the wind or solar generation, contributing over 2.0 GW (7.9 GWh) of storage to the grid.

The projects are expected to:

  • produce enough electricity to supply more than 4 million households in the NEM
  • support more than 19,000 jobs during construction
  • support more than 1,500 operations and maintenance jobs over their lifetime.

Developers have also made commitments for local communities, First Nations participation and Australian‑made materials.

Subject to final contracts, projects supported under Tender 7 have committed an estimated:

  • $504.6 million in community shared benefits
  • $678.7 million in First Nations benefits
  • $257 million in Australian‑made steel.
