Man dies in hospital after assault; man charged - Nambucca Heads

A man has been charged with assault causing death after another man died in hospital following an alleged assault on the state's Mid North Coast this week.

About 7am on Tuesday (19 March 2019), a man was found unconscious in the driveway of a home on Excelsior Street at Nambucca Heads.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended, and the 36-year-old man was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital where it was determined he had suffered a fractured skull.

Police were notified and officers from Mid North Coast Police District commenced inquiries into how the man was injured.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 23-year-old man in Riverside Drive at Nambucca Heads about 11am yesterday (Wednesday 20 March 2019), and was taken to Macksville Police Station.

Police were notified the older man had died in hospital just before 4pm the same day.

The younger man has now been charged with assault causing death and refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Thursday 21 March 2019).
