Man injured in home invasion, appeal for information on Maitland

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was injured in a home invasion in the Hunter region.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 18 May 2021), a man and woman were inside a house on O'Hearn Street, Tenambit, near Maitland, when a man wearing a balaclava forced entry through the rear door.

The unknown man demanded money from a male occupant, aged 48, before he was physically assaulted on numerous occasions.

A female occupant who was not injured in the incident called police and the man fled the house.

The 48-year-old man was taken to Maitland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The unknown man is described as being aged in his early 20s, about 160cm tall, of medium build with brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a black balaclava, dark coloured clothing and black shoes.
