Man missing, Big Millstream Falls

The search for a 61-year-old man missing in a swimming hole in the states far north will resume tomorrow morning.

The Millstream local had been swimming with two friends this afternoon (January 25) at the Army Swimming Holes, near Big Millstream Falls, when he was dragged under the water by the fast-flowing current.

Police were notified when the two friends drove to Ravenshoe Police Station at around 1.45pm to raise the alarm.

Police commenced a search with Rescue 510 conducting sweeps of the area and swift water rescue and SES personnel attending.

Ground searches were conducted however due to the hazardous water conditions boats were unable to enter the water.

The search continued until darkness and is due to resume at first light.

Big Millstream Falls is approximately 3.5km south-west of Ravenshoe on the Kennedy Highway.
