A South Australian man has been sentenced to four months imprisonment for failing to comply with bail conditions and false identification offences.
The man, 36, was arrested and charged at Adelaide Airport on 15 September, 2022 after airline staff alerted AFP to the man attempting to remove an ankle bracelet.
Further enquiries into the man revealed he was attempting to leave the state and fly to Perth, which breached his bail conditions.
The man was charged with the following offences:
- One count failure to comply with a bail condition, contrary to s 17(1) of the Bail Act 1985 (SA),
- Two counts attempt to contravene bail conditions at Adelaide airport, contrary to Bail Act 1985 (SA); and
- One count use of false identification information at a constitutional airport, contrary to s 376.2(1) of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth).
The man was sentenced to four months and 18 days imprisonment.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Stone praised the work of airline staff, as well as the quick action of officers at the Adelaide Airport.
"The AFP is committed to supporting airport staff and aviation partners and will continue to protect law-abiding Australians while maintaining zero tolerance for alleged criminals attempting to evade police," Detective Superintendent Stone said.
"When travelling through the airport and when on a plane, people are bound by Australian law and where there is evidence that someone has committed a criminal offence, the AFP will take action," he said.
