Man sought after glassing, NSW

A man will require surgery after he was struck with a glass during an altercation at a hotel in Nelson Bay overnight, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 9pm on Saturday 22 April 2017 two men, who are known to each other, became involved in an altercation in a licensed premise in Stockton Street.

Police have been told that during the altercation a 30-year-old man was struck to the left side of his face with a schooner glass.

The glass caused a severe laceration to the man’s right ear and he was assisted by security officers and other patrons until the arrival of emergency services.

The other man, who had suffered an injury to his hand, was restrained by security staff and evicted from the hotel. The man left the area prior to police arrival.

Officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command attended the area and commenced an investigation. The officers closed the hotel and established a crime scene.

The injured man, who was in a stable condition, was treated by Ambulance paramedics and then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he will require surgery.

Inquiries into the incident continue as police attempt to locate the alleged assailant.

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to call Crime Stoppers.
