Maroondah Youth Awards - help shine light on our young achievers

Do you know a young person who is doing amazing work in the community? If so, now's your chance to reward their efforts by nominating them for a Maroondah Youth Award.

Council's Maroondah Youth Awards is an annual event that celebrates and recognises the strengths, resilience and achievements of young people aged between 10 and 25 in Maroondah.

The event is a night filled with personal stories, inspiring speeches, amazing performances, and recognition of exceptional young people who either go to school, work, or live in the City of Maroondah.

Nominations are being invited up until the closing date of Friday 23 September 2022.

The 2022 Maroondah Youth Awards will be presented at an evening ceremony to be held at Karralyka on Monday 28 November.

Last year's awards recognised 117 exceptional young people who were nominated across four categories: Leadership, Creativity, Perseverance and Teamwork.

Maroondah Mayor, Cr Mike Symon, encouraged residents to nominate a young person who they felt had made a positive contribution, shown commitment, achievement or innovation in their local community, or who had demonstrated personal growth and endurance to overcome hardships to achieve their goals.

"We are so lucky in Maroondah to have such an engaged community of young people, though at times the amount of work they put into creating positive change in the community can go unnoticed," Cr Symon said.

"The Maroondah Youth Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate deserving young people who lead by example and inspire others through their leadership, drive and determination," he said.

Every young person nominated receives an award as part of the ceremony.

"As Council believes all nominees are deserving of recognition, there is no overall winner. Instead, we acknowledge the commitment, achievements and resilience shown by all nominees," Cr Symon said.

Nomination categories for 2022 are:

  • Leadership – an individual who has shown significant leadership qualities, positive direction and has empowered others.
  • Creativity – an individual who has shown the ability to use innovation through visual arts, performance, media, or another art form.
  • Perseverance – an individual who has demonstrated ongoing determination and persistence, whilst overcoming challenges in their day-to-day life.
  • Teamwork – a group of young people who have collaborated to provide a service, program or project that has resulted in positive youth-led change in the local community.
