Improving the health and wellbeing of young and mums and babies in the Redland City region is a priority for new Mater Private Hospital Redland paediatrician Dr Clara Menezes.

Dr Menezes is a general paediatrician offering comprehensive medical care for children from birth to 16 years of age across the bayside.

A paediatrician for the past 25 years, Dr Menezes said she was passionate about offering parents support about day-to-day care for their young child and assisting young children with development delays.

"Sometimes parents just need the extra support to access the services available around them to get through challenges and help with their child's development," Dr Menezes said.

"Offering support to improve the overall wellbeing of a parent and their child is fulfilling."

She has a special interest in young children with growth and development issues, allergies and genetic and epigenetic factors contributing to chronic conditions.

Dr Menezes is also experienced in forensic and child protection paediatrics, indigenous health and providing holistic care that considers the social and cultural aspects of health.

Dr Menezes also practices at the Mater Private Hospital Mackay and Mater Mothers' neonatal unit in Brisbane.

"There's something special knowing we can do something for these preterm babies, and making their lives much easier," she said.

"I have worked in regional hospitals for a long time, but now it's nice to have the best of both worlds and enjoy the city life too."
