Matt Genever appointed Interim CEO of SV

Sustainability Victoria

Following the recent departure of Claire Ferres Miles, SV welcomes Chief Operating Officer Matt Genever to the role of Interim CEO.

A self-described 'action man', Matt's 20-year career in the sustainability sector has been driven by a desire for progress and positive change in the world. Matt has a wealth of expertise and an optimistic 'can do' approach - both crucial in ensuring SV continues to deliver high-value programs and projects across Victoria.

For Matt, the appointment is a 'huge honour and an absolute privilege'.

"I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity," says Matt. "SV is a truly remarkable place to work and I'm absolutely committed to seeing SV progress along on its journey - a journey well mapped out by Claire and the leadership team.

"I'm a real believer that our global challenges can only be solved if they are tackled from all perspectives, bringing together the best in government leadership, grassroots community action and industry innovation."

Matt's momentum and energy will be a driving force in SV's continual progress.

A bit about Matt

Matt grew up east of Melbourne in the Shire of Yarra Ranges suburb Mooroolbark. Several years on, he's stayed loyal to his local town and lives there with his wife, two children and two dogs.

Following an early appreciation of the planet we live on, Matt found himself drawn to study environmental science at university.

"Somewhere along the way it occurred to me that this planet we live on is entirely unique and amazing and I really saw the beauty and intricacy of nature as something pretty special."

Over the past 20 years, Matt has made a demonstrable impact, most notably in the waste and resource recovery sector where he has led large scale reforms in market development, recycling infrastructure and planning.
