Next up on The University of Texas at Arlington's Maverick Speakers Series stage is actor and director Giancarlo Esposito, who will appear Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Texas Hall. Esposito will reflect on his acclaimed career in television, film, and theater, as well as his advocacy work.
Known for his iconic portrayal of Gus Fring in the television shows "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul," Esposito has earned numerous accolades, including a Critics Choice Award and multiple Emmy nominations.
His versatility extends to standout roles in "The Mandalorian," "Kaleidoscope" and "The Boys," as well as films such as Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" and "Malcolm X," "Captain America: Brave New World," "MaXXXine," "Abigail" and "Megalopolis."
He also has a long list of Broadway credits—including "Merrily We Roll Along" and Debbie Allen's rendition of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"—and has won two Obie Awards.
Under his production company, Quiet Hand Productions, Esposito aspires to make "conscious content" films that focus on the inspirational. He made his feature directorial debut with the 2008 film "Gospel Hill," which won over nine awards at various film festivals. His second feature film as a director, "The Show," centers on a disturbing reality game show where contestants end their lives for viewer entertainment.
Outside of his acting and directing work, Esposito lends his support to various charitable organizations that support the arts and education, including Waterkeeper Alliance, Kids for Peace and World Merit USA.
The event is sold out, but standby tickets will be available at the Texas Hall box office beginning at 6:30 p.m. the night of the show. About 10 minutes before the event begins, standby guests will be admitted as space allows.
