The $1000 scholarship, named in honour of Kaurna woman and well-known Playford local, May Graham-Turner, can be used towards expenses associated with training or study at any South Australian University, TAFE SA or South Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
Supported by City of Playford and Marni Waiendi, the scholarship can be used to cover student fees, travel, equipment, software, childcare, stationery, tools, uniforms and textbooks.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said that the scholarship, now in its second year, helps young people increase career opportunities.
"Scholarships like this help ensure young people can access education and training which is such an important pathway to building a future.
"Council is committed to supporting young people strive for growth, development and success. The May Graham-Turner scholarship is just one of the ways we do this."
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must reside in the City of Playford, identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be enrolled as a full-time student at any South Australian university, a vocational training course at TAFE SA or South Australian RTO.
Applications for the May Graham Turner Aboriginal Education Scholarship are open until Friday 19 May 2023 at 5pm.
Aunty May Graham-Turner is a Kaurna woman who was well-known in the Playford community for her commitment to caring for others through her work at the Lyell McEwin Hospital. Aunty May brought laughter and hope to the sick and terminally ill. The scholarship is to honour Aunty May and carry on her legacy.

Marni Waiendi engages with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and helps provide support and advocacy to increase the participation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in programs across the City of Playford.
It provides the community with information and referrals to assist with access to a range of mainstream and Indigenous-specific services through the development of programs and services.
