  • All Target 120 locations will be extended to 30 June 2025
  • Early intervention program steering at-risk young people away from the criminal justice system, helping to create safer communities

The McGowan Government is investing $11.7 million in the 2023-24 State Budget to continue supporting at-risk youth by extending the successful Target 120 program.

All locations will be extended to 30 June 2025, as part of the McGowan Government's commitment to reducing offending and providing positive pathways for at-risk youth, while also supporting safer communities.

This takes total investment in the successful early intervention program to $43.3 million.

Target 120 works across local organisations and service providers, government agencies and the community to support young people and their families who are at risk of becoming repeat offenders by connecting them with tailored services and supports.

Through supporting both young people and their families, Target 120 seeks to intervene in the pattern of offending and helps to address the factors that can lead to offending such as addiction, trauma, lack of housing, poor school attendance, poor mental health, and family and domestic violence.

As stated by Community Services Minister Sabine Winton:

"This extension across each of our Target 120 sites is recognition of the genuine difference the program is making in our communities.

"It's important we continue to support the great work of the local service providers and organisations who are helping young people turn their lives around.

"Addressing these issues takes all parts of the community and Government together. Our Government has now invested more than $43 million in this early intervention program, which shows our commitment to help tackle these longstanding and complex issues."
