Operation Betka - IBAC report into alleged corrupt conduct in the Department of Education

The release of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission's report today again raises serious concerns about leadership, management and oversight in the Department of Education and Training.

This is the third IBAC investigation into DET. Labor's Minister for Education must be held to account for his failure of leadership and his inability to bring about required changes since 2016, to ensure government agencies act appropriately at all times.

IBAC has exposed weaknesses around managing and understanding conflicts of interest. Systems and processes were bypassed; procedures policies and compliance were not widely understood and there was ineffective management of complaints.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Cindy McLeish:

"The Department of Education and Training has failed to meet the expectations of Victorians that public agencies operate with the highest levels of integrity at all times.

"Again, IBAC have identified and highlighted serious concerning behaviour in the Department of Education and Training."
