May 15, 2019 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will conduct a working visit to Cuba on May 16, 2019.
Minister Freeland will meet with her Cuban counterpart Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the deteriorating situation in Venezuela and the U.S. decision to end the suspension of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
While in Havana, the Minister will visit the Embassy of Canada to Cuba, where she will speak with the Canadian diplomatic staff posted there.
“It is of critical importance that our two countries meet to discuss the economic, political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and the work we can undertake together to address it. I also look forward to discussing how we can work together to defend Canadians conducting legitimate trade and investment in Cuba in light of the United States ending the suspension of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.”
