Penrith City Council has completed a series of upgrades at Monfarville Reserve in St Marys, delivering modern and accessible sporting facilities for the community.
A key feature of the upgrade is the new amenities building which includes additional storage, accessible toilets, changerooms and a modern canteen. Sporting facilities have also been improved with a new 2-lane cricket practice facility and upgraded baseball player dugout shelters.
The reserve also received new landscaping, tree planting, accessible pathways, driveway resurfacing and an accessible car space.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the completion of the upgrades marks an important milestone for the St Marys community.
"Monfarville Reserve is such an essential venue for local cricket and baseball. As these sports continue to grow, these upgrades will make a real difference for the clubs and families who use them every week," Cr Carney said.
"These improvements create a more accessible and enjoyable place for local teams and residents to enjoy."
The Monfarville Reserve precinct-wide upgrades were funded by the NSW Government and Penrith City Council.
NSW Deputy Premier, Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Londonderry Prue Car said the much-needed upgrade is a great investment for the community.
"Our sporting clubs are at the heart of our community, and these upgrades will ensure they have modern, accessible spaces for all to enjoy.
"This project shows what can be achieved when state and local governments work together to deliver upgrades that directly benefit local families."
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said the NSW Government is committed to developing a network of places and spaces that enables participation in sport and active recreation at all levels.
"From grassroots to the elite level, our sporting infrastructure should accommodate all members of the community.
"The Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund helps upgrade existing facilities to meet the changing needs of our communities and create safer, more inclusive places to play across NSW.
Construction is currently underway on a new playspace at Monfarville Reserve, designed in collaboration with Year 5 and 6 students from St Marys South Public School as part of the annual Penrith Mayoral Challenge program. The new playspace is anticipated to be complete by April this year.
The Monfarville Reserve precinct upgrades were identified through the Sport and Recreation Strategy, Council's 15-year road map for the future provision of sport, play, recreation and open space across the City.
