Councillor Carly Moore has been elected Mayor of Hume City for a record fifth term, becoming the first Mayor in metropolitan Melbourne to achieve five mayoral terms since modern record-keeping.
The milestone cements Cr Moore's place as one of Victoria's most experienced local government leaders and reflects the confidence her fellow councillors have placed in her leadership and vision for Hume.
Cr Moore, who represents Aitken Ward, was elected Mayor of Hume City by her fellow councillors, with Cr Sam Misho elected Deputy Mayor, at Council's Statutory Meeting at the Council Chambers, Hume Global Learning Centre Broadmeadows on Wednesday 4 November.
Supporting local families through ongoing cost-of-living pressures, advocating for investment in essential infrastructure and services, and working with the next Victorian Government to deliver for Hume will be key priorities of Cr Moore's fifth mayoral term.
"If this role gives me a platform, then my responsibility is to use that platform to listen, advocate and speak up for those whose voices are not always heard," Cr Moore said.
"To be elected Mayor of Hume for a fifth term is an incredible honour and a responsibility I am proud to undertake.
"This milestone is not about one person. It reflects the trust my fellow councillors have placed in me and our shared commitment to delivering for the people of Hume.
"People tell me they can no longer afford to live the way they once did. They worry about paying the rent, the mortgage or the next bill.
"They are looking for work, struggling to access services and trying to navigate systems that increasingly feel beyond their control.
"When people don't know where else to turn, local government is increasingly becoming the first place they come for help.
"While Council cannot solve every challenge facing our community, we have a responsibility to listen, and do everything we can to make a difference.
"As Mayor, I will continue to advocate strongly for our community. I will continue to speak up when Hume is not getting the investment, infrastructure and support it deserves.
"I will listen, I will work hard, I will be honest and I will advocate fiercely for our community. I will lead with integrity and heart and continue using the privilege of this office to ensure people feel seen, heard and valued."
