More outdoor play opportunities for students

  • A total of 42 public primary schools to receive funding for playgrounds and shade structures

  • Public primary schools around Western Australia will share in $1 million of funding to construct nature play areas, purchase play equipment and install shade structures at their schools.

    Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced 42 primary schools that would receive up to $25,000 in this year's round of the equipment and shade area program.

    The majority of this work will be undertaken by the local workforce, creating local jobs for local people, including in regional areas.

    This is the third round of funding for the $3 million program which was announced in 2017-18.

    A total of $452.8 million is being invested in 2019-20 to improve infrastructure in WA public schools.

    A complete list of schools to receive funding for new play equipment and shade structures is below.

    As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

    "We know that being active is one of the most important factors for developing and maintaining good health in children.

    "This funding will allow schools to build play areas as well as install outdoor shade structures.

    "This investment will support local businesses and create jobs for Western Australians."
