Moree Boys Charged for Vehicle, Petrol Theft in Op Mongoose

Police have charged a second boy after an investigation into vehicle and petrol theft offences in Moree.

During the evening of Saturday 16 September 2023, a black Holden Viva was allegedly stolen from Dover Street in Moree.

A short time later, the car was allegedly involved in a fail-to-pay at a service station before it was seen driving erratically around the Moree township during the night.

About midnight on Thursday 21 September 2023, the vehicle was allegedly involved in another fail-to-pay at a truckstop in Narrabri.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District's Operation Mongoose commenced inquiries into the incidents.

On 22 September, a 14-year-old boy was arrested charged over the alleged vehicle theft.

He remains before the courts.

About 9pm yesterday (Saturday 23 September 2023), police were called to a home in West Tamworth after youths were seen acting suspiciously outside.

The group fled when police arrived; however, officers arrested a 12-year-old boy nearby after a foot pursuit.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner; drive conveyance taken without consent of owner; and breach of bail.

The boy was bail refused to appear at a children's court today (Sunday 24 September 2023).

Investigations by Operation Mongoose continue.
