Most Significant Presidential Agreement Signed Yet

Technical University of Denmark

The healthcare sector is facing major challenges. It is difficult to recruit enough doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. At the same time, the number of older people who suffer from age-related health issues that require medical attention is increasing, and the need for treatment among patients with mental health issues is also growing rapidly.

This situation that we are finding ourselves in cries out for us to come up with more innovative, technological solutions that can help doctors and nurses so they are able to more effectively treat and care for the patients they strive to give the best possible life.

That's why the Capital Region of Denmark and DTU have created Denmark's first technical university hospital. The partnership, which was officially launched earlier this month, will create a top-notch joint research and innovation environment that will help transform the healthcare system through education, innovation, research, and treatment.

It is perhaps the most important agreement I have signed in my time as President. Because it has the potential to give an infinite number of people a better life by taking our healthcare system to a whole new place.

A place where, for example, new devices allow doctors at Rigshospitalet to diagnose patients without having to move them from their living rooms in Frederiksværk or Maribo. Where more patients who are healthy enough to return home after a hospital stay, but still need medical follow-up, are monitored in their own homes via smart devices. Or where artificial intelligence frees up doctors' time and saves patients from unnecessary tests by screening images from scans and identifying which patients need more tests so a doctor can determine whether treatment is necessary.
