Movember challenge – Boon Squad

Can we just take a MOment to appreciate the lushes fluff that adorns these men’s faces.

If the plush moustaches now adorned by these rather swanky gentlemen wasn’t enough to impress you, then I’ll have you know they forwent their six-bladed Gillett’s and bebe-smooth faces for a good cause, which is men’s health.

The Boon Squad was born following a healthy session of blood, sweat and tears in a backyard gym and inspired by non-other than the Australian cricketing legend and established Mo-grower, David Boon aka Boonie, Boonsta, Booner.

Captain of The Boon Squad Gary Higgie said recent discussions about a mate’s health prompted the MOvember challenge.

“We were playing around with the idea of growing a moustache for a while when one of our mate’s health deteriorated, and so we decided we could grow a mo and raise awareness and money for prostate, testicular cancer and men’s health.

And the Boon Squad was born, comprising of nine men of different backgrounds and professions all ready and willing to take on the challenge of not shaving for an entire month.

“By not shaving for a month we hope to grow the conversation,” said Cpt Higgie with all puns intended.

“Mo’s are a talking piece and we want to talk about men’s health.”

“COVID has put a lot of stress on home life and there’s been a lot of people who haven’t been able to see family or get home for Christmas, which causes a lot of strain on families.

“Men are always told to ‘toughen up’ and be macho and deal with it. There’s a lot of stuff you have to deal with by yourself, especially work issues.

“Mo’s bring a sense of camaraderie and by doing this we want to let everyone know you don’t have to suffer this alone, your mates are there for you in the times that you need them.”

The Boon Squad were leaders in their field and raised $4215 within the first week. Since then they’ve upped the anti and are working to raise $10,000. If you would like to see the Boon Squad reach their $10k goal towards men’s health, donate here ->
