"My voice is in my hands" is Giuliano Bracci's new work for solo clarinet. It is written for, and with, Anna voor de Wind.
The composition will be performed on November 7 at November Music (Den Bosch) and on December 7 at De Link (Tilburg).
"My voice is in my hands" is a piece inspired by Emily Dickinson's Envelope Poems. Short poems on recycled envelopes, written during her late, most radical period. These envelopes are addressed to no one and to everyone at the same time. They remind us of our transience, vulnerability and hope.
These poems are put in a subtle theatrical space where breath, voice, sound, sign language and gestures coexist in a poliphony permeated by tension and longing.
Giuliano Bracci
Giuliano Bracci (1980) is an Italian composer who has been living in the Netherlands since 2010. After a degree in philosophy at La Sapienza University in Rome he studied composition with Rosario Mirigliano and Richard Ayres at Florence and Amsterdam Conservatories. He is currently working on a doctorate at Leiden University and Orpheus Institute Gent.
He has composed works for ensembles such as New European Ensemble, Ensemble Klang, Silbersee, Nieuw Ensemble, Het Gelders Orkest, De Ereprijs, L'arsenale, Quartetto Maurice, Freon.
Giuliano also collaborated with the theatre company Compagnia Pippo Delbono and the dancer and choreographer Suzan Tunca.
In 2018 he won the Concorso Evangelisti - Nuova Consonanza for his composition "Assetata ancora". His orchestral piece "Da uno spazio bianco" received an honourable mention at the Gaudeamus Prize 2010, and in 2011 he was finalist of the Premio Reina Sofia Madrid with "Non sei di quelli che si incantano al paesaggio" for choir and orchestra.
His music is regularly performed in the Netherlands and throughout Europe, in North and South America.
