Narrabeen Head Aquatic Reserve turns 20 and the Coastal Environment Centre invites the Community to celebrate 30 years.

Science and entertainment will come together from 9.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday 3 September, when the Coastal Environment Centre (CEC) and the NSW Government welcomes visitors for the annual open day at North Narrabeen.

This year, we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of Narrabeen Head Aquatic Reserve and its links with the CEC.

Narrabeen Head Aquatic Reserve was declared to conserve rocky shore plants, animals and habitats now and into the future. This special Saturday is a chance for the community to get up close and personal with a local marine biologist, learn about how to care for the Aquatic Reserve, chat to science experts about the local bushland and coastal environment, and explore activities that are educational and fun. Families and local residents are encouraged to drop in and join the party by exploring the Coastal Environment Centre where a host of wonderful activities will be set up from face painting for children, to a free plant giveaway.

This is a great opportunity for residents to get to know some of the great work being done in the marine and coastal space on the Northern Beaches and to chat to bush care experts about local projects happening on the ground. Visitors can learn from a marine biologist about the importance of Narrabeen Head Aquatic Reserve, including as an outdoor classroom for students to learn about marine life.

The Coastal Environment Centre (CEC) has programs for all ages and interests. The CEC promotes positive connections to our local environment through hands-on learning and has many displays, educators on hand to answer questions, as well as self-guided outside activities.

There will be plenty of other fun activities and learning experiences for the whole family. Children interested in pollination and native birds, can build a bee hotel to take home or create a native seed ball perfect for feeding birds. Keen gardeners will also find plenty to get their hands dirty with. Open Day is also an opportunity for locals to interact with experts on topics including native bees, bush tucker, creating wildlife-friendly gardens, composting, worm farming and keeping chickens.

Co-presented by Northern Beaches Council and the NSW Government, everyone is welcome to join in the fun.
