NASA to Hold Double Asteroid Redirection Test Launch Preview Briefing

NASA will hold a virtual media briefing at 1 p.m. EDT Thursday, Nov. 4, to preview the launch of the agencys first planetary defense test mission, the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART). As a technology test, the mission will help determine if intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid is an effective way to change its course, should an Earth-threatening asteroid be discovered in the future. DARTs target asteroid is not a threat to Earth.

The briefing will livestream onNASA Television, theNASA app, the agency'swebsite, and NASAsTwitteraccount.

Briefing participants will be:

  • Elena Adams, DART mission systems engineer, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), Laurel, Maryland
