Singapore's Neuron Mobility will deploy 600 of its e-scooters in Brisbane, after Brisbane City Council selected the startup from nine other global and local competitors.
Neuron will operate its commercial N3 scooters, which have 12-inch tyres and a 21-centimetre-wide floorboard to provide more stability and comfort. The e-scooter also features a GPS-enabled parking indicator on the handlebar display to guide riders to designated parking zones.
According to Neuron co-founder and CEO Zachary Wong, the company's e-scooters were specifically designed to be user-friendly and to address urban needs. Examples include blocking a scooter from entering high-pedestrian areas (geo-fencing) or lowering the speed in certain areas as requested by council.
An on-the-ground operations team will handle daily maintenance, including swapping batteries on the e-scooters to ensure they have a consistent supply.

Brisbane is the second Australian city to deploy Neuron's N3 scooters, after the City of Darwin selected Neuron e-scooters for a 12-month trial in April 2019.
Neuron will join California-based Lime Scooters, which has been operating in Brisbane since November 2018. Lime will operate 400 e-scooters in the city. A Lime survey of e-scooter users found 44% of riders used Lime to connect to public transit within the survey month.
The e-scooter rollout is part of Brisbane's Clean, Green, Sustainable 2017–2031 initiative, which aims to improve the city's sustainability and liveability.
