A new cat management facility operated by Just Cats has opened in Burnie, providing an important service for communities across Tasmania's North-West and West Coast.
Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we're continuing to take steps manage cats.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said the Tasmanian Government had provided $474,600 to Just Cats to establish and support the new facility.
"Cat management facilities such as this, are a valuable community resource. The opening of this facility is an important milestone and delivers on our commitment to strengthen cat management services across the North-West and West Coast," Minister Pearce said.
"The Just Cats Burnie facility is an adoption centre, finding new homes for cats; and a surrender facility, taking in trapped, stray and unwanted cats.
"In time, it will also be able to support responsible cat ownership through the provision of veterinary services including microchipping, desexing and vaccination.
"Our investment gives Just Cats the infrastructure and resources it needs to deliver these services across the region.
"This facility complements our broader work to improve cat management across Tasmania and reduce the impacts of stray and unwanted cats on our communities and environment."
