New Chairperson Appointed To Ambulance Victoria Board

VIC Premier

Minister for Ambulance Services Mary-Anne Thomas today announced the appointment of Shelly Park as chairperson of the board of Ambulance Victoria.

With more than 25 years of experience in CEO and senior executive roles, Ms Park brings a wealth of knowledge of the health system, strong strategic leadership skills and significant experience in the delivery of high-quality care.

Ms Park is passionate about developing better outcomes for the community and helping staff thrive. She has extensive experience in leading transformations in large and complex health-related organisations.

In addition to serving as the CEO of Australian Red Cross Lifeblood (2016-22) and Monash Health (2007-16), Ms Park is a Director of St John of God Health Care and Deputy Chair of Emerge Women and Children's Support Network.

Ms Park attended Ashridge Business School in the United Kingdom where she completed a master's degree in Management and is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The Ambulance Victoria Board develops strategic direction, oversees financial and service performance and ensures regulatory and government policy requirements and standards are met.

Ms Park's appointment comes at a critical time for the organisation, with Ambulance Victoria recently experiencing its busiest quarter on record, responding to more than 97,000 Code 1 cases between April and June.

Ms Park will lead on work already underway to achieving Ambulance Victoria's goal of building a safer, fairer and more inclusive workplace and improving response times following unprecedented pressure from the global pandemic.

In 2015, the Andrews Labor Government set a target for 50 per cent of new appointments to major boards to be women. Ms Park's appointment now makes the Ambulance Victoria board two-thirds female. She will begin the role on 26 August.

As stated by Minister for Ambulance Services Mary-Anne Thomas

"Ms Park brings impressive experience and significant knowledge of the health system, with a deep commitment to supporting healthcare workers."

"Her long-standing interest and passion for quality healthcare outcomes will be of enormous value, especially in this period of record demand for emergency care in Victoria."

As stated by incoming Ambulance Victoria's Board Chair Shelly Park

"It's an honour to join the Ambulance Victoria board. I look forward to working with the board, the Ambulance Victoria leadership team and dedicated ambulance and first responder community to deliver a world-class emergency ambulance service."
