The new and improved Don Reserve Playground is off to a flying start as it opened to the public over the weekend.
Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff said the $130,000 Devonport City Council project had already attracted plenty of public interest and featured a range of equipment that is exciting and challenging for most age groups.
Cr Rockliff said the location of the playground outside the Splash Aquatic Centre meant visitors, young and old, had already checked out the new equipment.
"We've already heard that the Twin Cable Swift Rider, also known as a Flying Fox, has had a workout by eager visitors," Cr Rockliff said.
"There is also a Rock Wall, Spinning Seats, Quad Net Climber and a 360-degree Basket Swing, which are all play equipment unique to other playgrounds in the city. It is also branded with a nature-based theme to suit the beautiful Don Reserve environment."
Cr Rockliff said Council had initially considered relocating the playground to another location within the reserve, but the current location allows for easy access to the walking track, plenty of parking and toilet access, within in the Splash Aquatic Centre business hours.
"The Don Reserve Playground is one of many Council assets that we are proud to provide for our community," Cr Rockliff said.
"There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to enable capital works projects like these to happen, and Council has an extensive $30 million Capital Works program for 2021-22."
